Duty

The motor, controller & batteries came into the country duty free! For a while I was worried because the Working Tariff of New Zealand is rather expansive.

The motor would appear to come under 8501.52.01 and the controller under 8503.00.01 in Electrical machinery both at 6.5%. When my crate actually arrived, no duty was charged. It was declared correctly, but it appears there is some sort of exemption.

GST

Duties and Levies, Commercial Importers clearly states that 12.5% GST is payable on all imports. This can be claimed back if you are GST registered.
